Synopsis

Since the 18th century, former Portuguese colony Macao is known as a center of fireworks production. The well-known IEC Long factory, the last monument to the area’s industrial past, today lies in ruins. “There were lots of dead people… I lost many friends. These memories haunt me like ghosts,” a former worker comments. The most recent film by João Pedro Rodrigues and João Rui Guerra da Mata is also their return to Macao.

João Pedro was born in 1966 in Portugal. After studying biology at Lisbon University he attended the Lisbon Film School. João Rui, born in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique, lives and works in Lisbon. He is an art director, scriptwriter, and director. Together they directed films such as O corpo de Afonso (2014), A última vez que vi Macau (2012), Alvorada vermelha (2011) and China China (2007).
